What is Amawele?

Amawele is a education based, developmental charity based in Ireland and South Africa.

Established in 2006 by a group of primary school parents, Amawele creates equitable partnerships between schools in Ireland and in Africa.

Amawele operates in schools in Ireland, South Africa, Malawi and Zambia and has created 102 partnerships between schools in Ireland and schools in Africa.

Amawele works with primary and post-primary learners facilitating links between learners and providing a positive learning tool for global citizenship.

What do we do?

Amawele facilitates programmes of global education and partnership in Ireland and works in Civil Society in African focussing on schools governance, IT, literacy and providing a sustainable food garden in each school.

By using a twinning and partnership mechanism between African and Irish Schools, Amawele is fostering a greater awareness of global issues, through real people and real experiences. We believe this enrichment of a curriculum benefits pupils and teachers from both communities culturally, morally and socially.
